Raising A Servant-Minded Generation

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Mark‬ ‭10‬:‭45‬

How do we teach our children to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and have a heart to serve? This question matters because, as a parent, spiritual mentor, or leader, you are discipling a generation that will someday lead the Church. Investing in their hearts is more important than investing in their scholarships or skills!

In a world that is fast-paced and puts success right in front of your face through social media, it can be easy to lose sight of compassion and serving others. The world may have looked different when Jesus walked the earth, but the same temptations were there! You could be more concerned about yourself, your success, your well-being, and your profit, or you could choose to love others as you love yourself. Jesus chose to humbly serve.

Jesus’ mighty example of coming to this earth to serve shows us the need for us to follow in His footsteps. If a King is willing to give up His throne to serve people, many who didn’t believe in or follow Him, how much more should we take a posture of humility to serve others? This is how we embody Jesus to the world!

Set the example for your children. They need to see and hear what serving looks like in your life. Don’t boast and share every situation, but invite them in to witness you serving and to serve with you. Those moments will be more formative than you know for your children!
