When people come to our homes, there are 3 postures that can happen:
- We open the door and talk to the person as they stand outside.
- We invite them in but stay right by the door to chat.
- We walk them to the family room to sit and build relationships.
At Youth Group, the big games and loud music happen at the door, worship and teaching happen inside the door, and small groups happen in “the family room.” It’s in the family room where students can process what God stirred up in them during worship and teaching. It’s where they can ask the hard questions and be prayed for. It’s where Word of God is opened together, and they learn the truth that will stick in their hearts for the rest of their lives.
While the big games and loud music can draw students to the door and make it easy for them to invite friends, getting students past the front door is an attainable goal for our Youth Ministries. Take the hard questions, pray with your students, and keep making space for small groups. Students who are deeply discipled will continue to grow in their faith and will find joy in discipling others throughout their lives.
