Helping Your Child Find Their Purpose in Christ

In Jeremiah 29:11, we read “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

That verse has been quoted and displayed on cards and plaques for high school graduates for as long as I can remember.  But what if that verse became the popular verse quoted on birth announcements and on Kindergarten graduation diplomas?  It’s never too early to be searching God’s heart for what God has planned for our children.

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

We were all born on purpose for a purpose.  As we help our children discover and navigate their purpose from an early age, here are some helpful tips for parents:

  • Pray that your child will discover and commit to the plans God has for them
  • Affirm the gifts and talents you see in your children as God given gifts given for His purpose
  • Arrange conversations with godly people who know your child and can speak into the importance of being in the center of God’s will
  • Remind your child that we are all a part of God’s plan to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the world
  • Be patient as they figure things out

Encourage your children to hear from the Lord and to walk in the joy of knowing that God has a beautiful plan for their lives.  Because when we follow God’s plan, we are guaranteed a full and satisfying life that only He can provide.
