Our students are being tempted every day to bow to idols this world is throwing at them.
Identity, materialism, social media, sports, gaming, sex, pornography, drugs, and the list goes on.
What can we do to help them?
In Daniel 3, we read that King Nebuchadnezzar built an image of gold and ordered everyone in Babylon to bow down and worship it.
But as we continue to read, we find that a small group of friends rejected that order because they refused to bow down to anything but God out of obedience to Him.
If you’re familiar with the story, you’ll remember this small group of friends was then thrown into a blazing furnace. But they weren’t alone in the fire. God did not abandon them. They even walked away without a hair on their head singed.
The power of a small group is measureless. Not only does it create community, but it helps students to stand up for truth and obedience to God when they know they have friends standing with them.
You get to teach your students to have conviction to bow to nothing but God. You get to help provide a small group of godly friends who will stand with them. You get to remind them if they find themselves in a blazing furnace of rejection and ridicule for standing up for truth, that they can walk away victorious knowing God will never abandon them.
Thank you for all you do!
God, I pray that you will raise up Shadrachs, Meshachs, and Abednegos in this generation who won’t bow to the idols of this world. I pray that because of their unwavering convictions, you are lifted high and students all around will see that you alone save and that you alone bring fulfillment, joy, and life. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
